Munir De Vries (35) is a fulltime artist/illustrator based in Utrecht (Born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands), strongly motivated to create and hunt for new experiences and stories. With his background in graffiti and art school he has painted hundreds of walls, and specialized in visual storytelling. Recurringly his work focuses on our organic interconnectedness to each other and nature. While being part of a binary technologic system that limits our movements. In his work he is always playing with the visual contrast between soft gradients, organic shapes and hard systemized shapes. In his study Munir focused on visual storytelling, graduating with a graphic novel about immigration based on true stories. The graphic novel was told from the different involved perspectives, emphasizing the difference in our experience. His storytelling experience combined with his graffiti background enables him to visualize new found perspectives, stories and ideas into the environment they are from. Creating huge murals as a podium for found perspectives/stories/ideas, to help them flourish. Munir does not believe in values as low-art/high-art and aims to create work accessible to and representing people independent of their socio-economic background equally. Always taking in count the environment in which the new work will live. Hoping to give back inspiration to the inhabitants or passers-by that inspire him and each other. He loves to experiment with the relation between a 3D shape and paint, using existing shapes to create sculpture like objects.
