Lizette Abraham

Lizette Abraham is a Yucatecan artist who resides in Mexico City and works with photography, installation and performance. In her images she focuses on the construction of imaginaries, explores various creative processes, designs characters, objects and settings. Its main materials are textiles such as thread, fabric and recycled materials. The most recurring themes of her work are the rescue of the indigenous legacy, forced disappearances, femicides and the pollution of the planet.

Since 2012, her visual work has been recognized for its particular aesthetic, where she metamorphoses textiles, combining her photomontage and staging techniques with a social focus. This perspective comes from studying Social Communication Sciences and a master's degree in Design, as well as various workshops and diplomas at the San Luis Potosí Arts Center CASLP and Mexico City Arts Center CENART.

In 2023 Lizette was the winner of first place at the FINI International Image Festival in the Professional Photography with Alternative Techniques category. In 2021, the PECDA Yucatán Artistic Development Stimulus Program obtained support. That same year she was the winner of second place at the FINI International Image Festival in the Professional Alternative Techniques category. In 2019, it was selected for the second time in the “Bogotá International Photographic Biennial.” In 2018, she obtained the “Young Creators” scholarship from the National Fund for Culture and the Arts FONCA and won the special Canon award in the “Third Contemporary Photography Contest of Mexico” FUMCA. At the Art Basel Miami Fair, she represented Mexico with her work “Los cómplices.” In 2016, she won first place at the FINI “International Image Festival”, in the Professional Alternative Techniques Category.

Lizette has nineteen individual exhibitions and more than eighty group exhibitions in different parts of the republic, as well as in Bogotá, Spain, Texas, Los Angeles, Miami, Nebraska and Berlin. Her work has been published on the covers of books and digital magazines, such as, Read more from Ghandi, Vice, Forum, Cultura Colectiva, Replicante, Picnic, SA. Monthly Texas among others.
